Hyundai are leading the way when it comes to cashing in on the government scrappage scheme, latest SMMT sales figures show Hyundai are one of the few manufacturers to increase sales in an economic downturn that has hit the motor industry hard. Hyundai have increased their sales by 68% and increased their market share from 1.34% to 2.67%.
Hyundai have really embraced the scheme and have matched a much improved model range that provides value for money and quality refinement. The introduction of the i10, i20 and BMW 1 series clone the i30 have all been recieved well.
Other manufacturers that have have excelled include Alfa romeo with a 40% increase, Mercedes Smart with a 3.3% increase and although only small numbers sold SSangyong have increased there sales in the UK by 25%.
The biggest losers are Saab, Renault and Chrysler all suffering over a 40% decrease in sales.
Ford continue to dominate the UK car sales market with a 16% share, followed by Vauxhall at 12%. No other manufacturer gets close to the double figure %.
